The Udall Undergraduate Scholarships support:

  1. undergraduate students who are committed to pursuing careers that will enable them to address environmental issues on a local, national, or global scale and have demonstrated their commitment to the environment through participation in campus activities or service to their community 
  2. undergraduate students who are Native American or Alaska Natives and working towards a career related to tribal policy that will enable them to make a difference for their tribe or for Native Americans and Alaska Natives and who have demonstrated their commitment to Indian country through participation in cultural activities and service to their community
  3. undergraduate students who are Native Americans and Alaska Natives who are interested in improving health care practice and delivery in Indian country, or contributing to health care policy and research and who have demonstrated  commitment to Indian country through participation in cultural activities and service to their community.

Campus nomination is required.

Eligibility

Applicants must be sophomores or juniors with US citizenship or permanent residency status.

Deadline

In 2027, the Hamilton campus deadline is noon on Wednesday, February 17. All parts of the application are due at this time. If you’re interested in applying, reach out to the Director of Student Scholarships as soon as possible.

Award Benefits

Up to $7,000 for eligible academic expenses; access to the Udall Alumni Network: an association of change-makers working in Indian country and environmental fields sharing innovative ideas, professional advice, and job and internship opportunities; participation at Scholar Orientation: extending your professional network, meeting other Scholars and alumni, and learning new skills.

Application and selection Process

Potential applicants must contact the Director of Student Scholarships for access to the online application. Candidates must submit complete application materials online by the February 17, 2027 campus deadline. Campus applications will be reviewed and up to eight nominees (up to four in the environmental category and up to four in the Indian country category) will be selected to go forward to the national competition. Nominees will be able to fine tune their applications prior to the national deadline, which historically falls in early March. Udall informs all nominees of their status in mid-April.
