If you walked around campus on a nice day this summer, you would likely have seen a pair of Hamilton students hammering metal tags onto trees. You might well have seen them doing it over, and over, and over again.

Members of Hamilton’s Class of 2023 have walked off the Commencement stage, canes in hand, and out into the world ready to make a difference and take the lead on global issues and needs.

Growing up in the suburbs of Rochester, N.Y., Jackson Vogt ’23 was undecided between the University of Rochester and Hamilton College. “I had a lot of friends going to the University of Rochester, but it seemed a bit too close to home,” he said. Now, four years, two majors, and an Amazon internship later, Vogt has accepted a full-time position at Amazon Web Services.(AWS) as part of their web design and development team.

For many, work in the art world conjures images of artists at easels. However, a career in art can be much broader and involve aspects beyond the creation of art.

After witnessing her family’s struggle with genetic disorder, Taliyah James ’24 is utilizing all of her resources to launch her career in genetic counseling.

With the support of many Hamiltonians from across campus, a small cohort of interns spent the summer developing a plan for how the College can use green landscaping as a tool in its sustainability efforts.

Physics major Jacob Sichlau ’23 interned this summer at Varian Medical Systems on the microwave ablation team. The experience solidified his interest in pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering after Hamilton.

Caroline Casey ’23 has spent the summer working as an intern at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. She tells what led her to this position and how it’s helped solidify her career goals.

As an art history major on the pre-med track, Miriam Lerner ’24 believes that college is a time to explore your passions — even if they differ from your career goals. She has taken advantage of the open curriculum and at the same time, her interest in medicine has grown through her biology research at Hamilton. That research led her to a summer internship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Niamh McDade-Clay ’25 spent the summer as an intern at the New York State Division of Human Rights in its Rochester regional office. She was supported by Summer Internship Funding Committee and the Diversity and Social Justice Project Fund. Here she tells what drew her to this opportunity and how it fits with her future plans.
