Even before some first-year students set foot on Hamilton’s campus for the first time, they get an email about the Community Service Internship (CSI) program. The program is offered through the Community Outreach & Opportunity Program (COOP) and pairs incoming first-year students with a four-semester, paid internship with community partner agencies in the Mohawk Valley.

Among the biggest fans for this weekend’s men’s hockey NESCAC playoffs will be volunteers from Arc, an organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The volunteers, who come to campus on Thursdays to help out with the Athletic Department, have formed a special bond with members of Hamilton’s men’s hockey team.

As the end of the semester rolled around, students were able to enjoy some festive holiday events and share the spirit of giving.

Student volunteers collect and package food for delivery to charitable organizations in Utica, including the Rescue Mission of Utica and the Johnson Park Center.

Six Hamilton students went to Clinton Middle School to help facilitate a Hanging with Hamilton open gym on Nov. 2. At the event, the Hamiton students played volleyball, basketball, and Castle on the Fence with about 20 middle school students.

Five students spent the Fall Break AXB volunteering at Pathfinder Village, a residential community for individuals with Down syndrome and developmental disabilities in Edmeston, N.Y.

Hamilton science faculty have been busy the past several weeks sharing their expertise with students much younger than college-age audiences. Elementary school children from Oneida, Clinton, and New Hartford have descended upon the Taylor Science Center for a morning of science exploration over the past four weeks as well as in March during Hamilton’s spring break.

She is all in: heart and mind. How she does anything is how she does everything. Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Community Outreach and Opportunity Project (COOP) joined forces this month to volunteer at local organizations for the D-III Week of Service, a conference-wide community service competition. The goal was to gather as many hours of service as possible from April 2 to April 8. Hamilton had 128 athletes participate, and they amassed 300 hours of hands-on volunteer service during the seven-day event.
