On May 1, Sourcebooks released I Love Charts: The Book by Jason Oberholtzer '08 and Cody Westphal '08.  The book is a collection of the best previously unpublished charts from their blog I Love Charts, which was created in 2009 and has grown to 100,000 followers on Tumblr and a half a million views a month. The Huffington Post ranked the blog first on their list of "33 Tumblogs You Need to Follow" and the New York Observer called it one of the "100 funniest Tumblrs…ever."

Stone Professor of Psychology Douglas Weldon presented a poster titled “Visual Cortical Evoked Potentials During and After MK-801 Administration in Rats” at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience on Nov. 16 in Washington, D.C.

Leonard C. Ferguson Professor of Music Samuel Pellman presented ngc 6357, a composition with video by Miranda Raimondi '08, at the Understanding Visual Music 2011 conference at Concordia University, Montreal, in August.  

The law firm Spilman Thomas & Battle has announced that Sarah Patterson '08 has joined its Charleston office. Patterson will practice in consumer finance litigation and assist with research, pleadings, discovery, and trial preparation. She was most recently a legal research and writing teaching assistant at West Virginia University College of Law.

“Live your passion.” It’s a mantra Melissa Kong ’08 has repeated many times—she even uses it as the title of her blog.  On Sept. 3, Kong returned to share her passion with 45 members of the class of 2014 at the inaugural Sophomore JumpStart, a program focused on translating the dreams and passions of the sophomore class into concrete skills and ideas for the working world.

A. Todd Franklin, professor of philosophy, conducted six days of workshops from Aug. 2-7 on the nature of a liberal arts education as part of an academic summer camp for students of LOGOS, a private high school in Tbilisi, Georgia. Founded by Giorgi Chavleishvili ’08, LOGOS is unlike other high schools in the Republic of Georgia, providing students with a full college prep curriculum consisting mainly of small discussion oriented classes.

Jason Oberholtzer '08 has joined ink Communications as manager, social media & content. Ink Communications is a virtual global high tech PR boutique agency, that specializes in helping telecommunications, mobile and small to medium sized emerging tech companies create a competitive advantage through social media and marketing.

A paper co-authored by Associate Professor of Psychology Jennifer Borton was published in the March-April issue of The Journal of Social Psychology. “Does Suppressing the Thought of a Self-Relevant Stigma Affect Interpersonal Interaction?” was co-written with David Reiner ’05, Erica Vazquez ’08, Jessica Ruddiman ’09 and Stephanie Anglin ’10.

Ruth Duggan '08, a member of Mars & Co since graduating from Hamilton with a degree in physics, has been promoted to senior associate consultant. Ruth has worked with several of Mars & Co's Fortune 100 clients, including ones in consumer packaged goods and retailing. Mars & Co is a global management consulting firm specializing in business strategy and operational improvement.
