Students in the Washington, D.C. Program recently visited Williams and Jensen, a private law firm focused on lobbying, to talk to George Baker ‘74 and Frank Vlossak ‘89 about their work.

Nancy Avery Dafoe K'74 recently won the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society writing award, The William Faulkner - William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition for 2016 with her poem, "Entrance Exam."

A little real world experience before graduation gives students a definite advantage and Hamilton’s Program in Washington D.C. allows students to do just that. In addition to taking classes and writing a thesis, each of the eight students on the program heads to the office each morning, fulfilling the internship portion of the experience.

Students in the Hamilton College Program in Washington, D.C., met with George D. Baker ’74 and Frank C. Vlossak IV ’89 for an in-depth discussion of lobbying on Jan. 29. Baker and Vlossak are principals at Williams and Jensen PLLC, one of the few leading independent law firms in Washington with a practice focused primarily on lobbying.

Students in the Hamilton College Program in Washington, D.C. attended an informative media panel hosted by George Baker ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89 of the Williams and Jensen law firm on Oct. 30. The panel included Hamilton D.C. area alumni who work in the fast-paced field of D.C. media and journalism.

Hamilton College Program in Washington D.C. participants visited with Hamilton alumni George Baker ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89 for an in-depth discussion on lobbying in Washington, D.C.  on Sept. 4. Baker and Vlossak are currently principals at Williams and Jensen PLLC. Williams and Jensen is one of the nation’s leading, independently owned government affairs law firms.

The Bronx Museum celebrates the opening of Solace on the Line, a multi-media exhibit, with text by Susan Hartman K'74, and photos and video by Todd Heisler, based on their New York Times photo essay.  The Exhibition opens on Apr. 19 from 7:00-9:00 pm and will run from Apr. 19-Sept. 8, 2013.

Nancy Dafoe K'74, P'04 will be releasing Breaking Open the Box: A Guide for Creative Techniques to Improve Academic Writing and General Creative Thinking with Rowman & Littlefield Education this March. The educational textbook explores the ways in which students are gradually taught to incorporate creativity in writing specifically structured essays.  Teaching students to use creative techniques and make creative decisions about rhetorical structures fosters critical thinking skills and improves writing, according to the author.

George Baker Jr. ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89 have returned to Hamilton to share their real-world experience with 12 students through a unique Lobbying and Government Relations course. Baker and Vlossak, who hold the positions of distinguished lecturers of American Public Policy and Practice, previously co-taught the course in 2008.

Patrick Reynolds, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, announced the appointment of new faculty for the 2012-13 academic year, including two tenure-track appointments, 25 visiting professors and instructors, and four teaching fellows. New tenure-track appointments are Daniel Barth and Gbemende Johnson.
