The National Science Foundation has awarded a $49,652 grant to St. Lawrence University enabling St. Lawrence professor Michael Schuckers, Bates College’s Mathematics and Statistics Workshop director Grace Coulombe, and Mary O’Neill, director of the Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) Center at Hamilton, to create and develop a workshop and handbook for mathematics and science academic support professionals at colleges and universities.

Hamilton’s Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) Center held a grand opening in its new offices in the former Media Library on the third floor of C. A. Johnson, (CJ 303), on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Mary B. O’Neill, director of the Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) Center, was a member of a panel titled “Quantitative Support Centers: Common Themes” at the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) on Jan. 4 in Boston. The panel brought together directors of Quantitative Support Centers (QSCs) from a variety of institutions including St. Lawrence University, Bates College, Smith College and the University of Connecticut.

Twenty-one Hamilton faculty members, representing 14 different departments ranging from chemistry to comparative literature, attended a workshop on Incorporating Quantitative Reasoning Across the Curriculum on June 6-7 at Hamilton.
