Lizzi Tran ’18 was selected to participate in the first Obama Foundation Training Day in Boston on Nov. 18. Tran, a Posse scholar from Boston, served as Hamilton Student Assembly vice president in 2016.

More than 190 Hamilton students, faculty and administrators attended the annual Posse Plus Retreat, a weekend-long event of discussion on a specific topic. The event marks the 16th year that Hamilton has partnered with the Posse Foundation.

First-year students of the Boston and Miami Posse toured the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (MWPAI) in Utica on Nov. 13 as they sought to learn more about differences in perspective, experience and culture when viewing artwork. The Institute featured an exhibit with works from renowned photographer Steve McCurry, which spurred discussion among the scholars on the value of spreading cultural awareness through art.

Faced with choosing between a full-time position in a prestigious global communications marketing firm or work with a non-profit organization, Njideka Ofoleta ’16 went with her gut and took a fellowship with the Newman’s Own Foundation. “I wanted an opportunity to give back for a year,” said Ofoleta, a Posse Foundation Scholar from Miami.

In his address at Hamilton’s commencement, PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel told the Class of 2016, “At this time in your life you know fewer limits, fewer taboos and fewer fears than you ever will in the future. So do not squander your ignorance! Go out and do what your teachers and parents thought could not be done, and what they never thought of doing,” he urged.

Gabriel Rivas ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. Rivas, an interdisciplinary studies major, studied at Universitat Tübingen in Germany during his junior year.

Posse Scholars, Hamilton students and faculty gathered on Feb. 5-7 at the Radisson Hotel in Utica to better understand the influence of language in contemporary society at the annual Posse Plus Retreat.

Kiana “Kiki” Sosa ’15 and Kayla Cody ’15, both Boston Posse Foundation scholars, have been awarded Hamilton’s prestigious Bristol Fellowship.

Hamilton commemorated its 15–year partnership with the Posse Foundation by holding a Posse Plus Retreat on Feb. 6-8. The retreat is hosted by the Posse Foundation, a scholarship program that seeks to increase cultural and racial diversity in private colleges by sending students from minority-dominated cities to college together in “posses.” This year marks Posse's 25th year in operation and it has partnered with Hamilton College for the past 15 years. Hamilton’s Posse scholars come from Boston and Miami.

Jessica Moulite ’14 has always been interested in journalism. She’s drawn to the concept of using media as a platform to contact and connect a group of people. In the fall, Moulite is one step closer to her dream as she enrolls in the University of Southern California’s prestigious Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
