For Harper Gany-Beitler ’13 the path to medical school was entwined with a love of languages. She’s a first-year student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Italian filmmaker and producer Fred Kuwornu, who’s on campus this week to present three of his documentary films, is also spending time lecturing in some classes. He visited Mary Sisler’s Italian 130 class on Oct. 17.

Roberta Krueger, the Burgess Professor of French, presented a paper titled “Other Bodies, Other Rooms: Moving Forward with Feminism in Medieval French Studies” at the International Congress for Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University on May 12. 

During the spring semester, 27 Hamilton students taught Spanish to students at Clinton Elementary School. The Hamilton students participated in a training workshop in order to learn about teaching methods and to discuss lesson plans. The program began in February and continued through the end of the semester.

Gerard Pozzi ’18 has been awarded a Coccia Foundation Scholarship for study abroad in Italy. Established in 1994, the Coccia Foundation is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Italian culture, with a particular emphasis on promoting the rich Italian cultural heritage among younger generations at the college level.

Hamilton French classes visited Montreal recently for a weekend of culture and cuisine. Visiting Assistant Professor of French Cynthia Laborde and Teaching Fellow Julien Ribrault escorted the 12 students who included: Rafiatou Ouro Aguy ’18, Wilhelgyne Rose ’19, Marie Fouché ’19, Kyandreia Jones’19, Jade Alvillar ’18, Erin Bernard ’16, Dani Gomes Rodrigues ’18, Dana Holloway ’18, Giovanna Petta ’19, Kirsty Warren ’18, Alan Yeh ’18 and Olivia Paradice ’18.

Roberta Krueger, the Burgess Professor of French, presented an invited lecture titled “Piety and Profanity in Medieval Conduct Books: The Case of Antoine de la Sale’s Jean de Saintré” at the University of Missouri on April 7.

Part of an interview with Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian appeared in the March 23 edition of La Repubblica.it, the online version of the well-known Italian newspaper. The interview focused on the likelihood that the famous Bronte sisters owe their last name to a small Sicilian town located at the foothills of Mt. Etna.

Charlotte Carstens ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. Carstens, a German studies and world politics major, studied in Tübingen, Germany, during her junior year.

Eunice Lee ’16 has been awarded a 2016-17 Fulbright U.S. student grant to the European Union (EU).  She will research the EU’s food quality policy and how origin and quality regulations affect small farming communities. Lee is an environmental studies and French major and will be based at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research in Toulouse, France, throughout her research. She studied in France during her junior year.
