Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi and Assistant Professor of Art Robert Knight took their classes (History 370 and Art 370) on a field trip to the Eastman Museum in Rochester and to Light Work in Syracuse on Oct. 3. 

While studying abroad in Rajasthan, India, Anderson Tuggle ’14 assumed he would experience a new and unfamiliar culture. He was not aware that he would uncover a chapter of history that is largely forgotten. In his project funded by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center, Tuggle is researching India’s political integration after achieving independence from Britain.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi presented an invited lecture on May 1 at Utica College. Her lecture, “Seeing Women’s Labor: social reform and photography in India,” considered the complicated history of 70 photographs taken by Pranlal Patel in Ahmedabad, India, in 1937.

A proposal from Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi to make digital copies of the 19th- and early 20th-century Gujarati women’s journals Stri bodh (1857-1944) and Sundari subodh (1904-1921) was funded at the annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies.

In preparation for the 2015 World Economic History Congress, Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was a featured speaker at a workshop sponsored by the Japanese government.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was invited to present a paper, 'Seeing Women at Work: the Jyoti Sangh and Pranlal Patel in Ahmedabad, 1937," as part of the Madhusudan and Kiran C. Dhar Indian Studies Program at Indiana University on Sept. 20.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was a featured speaker in the South Asia Program Seminar Series at Cornell University on April 9.  Trivedi's talk "Women at Work in India: Photographs from Ahmedabad, 1937," examined a collection of some 70 photographs taken by Pranlal Patel and commissioned by the Jyoti Sangh, a women's organization.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi, and St. Lawrence University Professor of Philosophy Erin McCarthy, co-editors of ASIANetwork Exchange: a Journal of Asian Studies in the Liberal Arts, have published their first online issue of the journal. 

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi attended the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Chicago, Jan. 5-9.  She completed her term as president of the Society for Advancing the History of South Asia (SAHSA) by organizing three panels for the conference and convening a business meeting of the organization she led.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was invited to speak at Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Nov. 11.  Her talk, "A Photography of Working Ahmedabad: the Jyoti Sangh, Pranlal Patel, and women workers" addressed a series of 70 photographs that Trivedi uncovered during her research in India this past spring.
