  • Author Nalo Hopkinson will read from her work on Friday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in Kirner-Johnson 109, at Hamilton College as part of the Kirkland Project series "Technology, Science, and Democracy:  What’s at Stake?"  It is free and open to the public.

  • John Berry, professor emeritus of the department of psychology at Queens University, will present, "Acculturation and Adaptation among Immigrants and Refugees," on Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m., in the Chemistry Auditorium.  The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs speakers series "The Environment: Public Policy and Social Responsibility." 

  • Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics Derek Jones presented two invited papers recently in Finland, one at the Helsinki School of Economics on March 23 and another at EKLA  (a research association for Finnish employers) on March 26. Jones presented "The Effects of  Employee Involvement on Firm Performance: Evidence from an Econometric Case Study" and a talk on the incidence and effects of stock option plans in Finland. Jones has been invited to the Ohio Employee Ownership Center at Kent State this month to give another talk titled "The Effects of Employee Involvement on Firm Performance: Evidence from an Econometric Case Study."

  • Doug Raybeck, professor of anthropology, was interviewed for an article on forgiveness in the Dallas Morning News.  Raybeck said, "By letting go, we return our bodies to their normal state.  We breathe easier; our chests don't feel so tight."

  • Robert Greenstein, director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), will present "The Future of the Federal Budget" on Monday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs speakers series "The Environment:  Public Policy and Social Responsibility."

  • The Hamilton College Department of Theatre and Dance will present Wipeout, under the direction of Associate Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell, Thursday-Saturday, April 15-17, and Wednesday-Saturday, April 21-24, at 8 p.m. A 2 p.m. performance will take place Saturday, April 17. All performances are in the Minor Theater.

  • Author Stephen Kuusisto will read from his recent work on Thursday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn. Kuusisto is a spokesperson for Guiding Eyes for the Blind and teaches creative writing at Ohio State University.  His best-selling memoir, Planet of the Blind, was named a Notable Book of the Year by The New York Times, and his essays and poems have appeared in Harper's, The New York Times Magazine, Poetry, and Seneca Review.

  • Hamilton College's program on globalization engages students in a multi-disciplinary examination of the broad phenomenon of globalization, including its political, economic, social and cultural aspects.  The sophomore seminar cluster on globalization is sponsoring a series of lectures in April and May.

  • Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, a 1972 graduate of Hamilton College, is mentioned in The New York Times article, "Kerry Shows No Signs of Quick VP Decision," as one of John Kerry's potential running-mates.

  • A study by Philip Klinkner and Richard Skinner '92, both government professors, was featured in an Associated Press article. Their study, "Black, White, Brown and Cajun: The Racial Dynamics of the 2003 Louisiana Gubernatorial Election," was published by the Berkeley Electronic Press. Analysis by Klinkner and Skinner suggested bias, unexpected support from the so-called "David Duke vote" was decisive in Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco's victory.
