Rich Bernstein, a 1980 graduate of Hamilton, will be the featured guest on Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser on Friday March 22. The show is shown on most PBS stations at 8:30 p.m. Bernstein is chief U.S. strategist for Merrill Lynch & Co.

The Salt City Jazz Collective will present a free jazz concert on Tuesday, April 2, at 9 p.m. in Café Opus at the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts at Hamilton College.

Hamilton's Great American Heart Run and Walk Team raised $6,346 in its best effort yet. Hamilton co-chair Marylyn Nassimos reports that Hamilton's 89 participants raised an average of $71.30/person. These numbers represent an increase in participants and in money raised from last year.

The ACCESS Project and Women's Studies Professor/ACCESS co-director Vivyan Adair are featured in a National Journal (3/9/02) article,"Get Hitched, Stay Hitched," concerning President Bush's plan to give states money to encourage marriage among welfare recipients.

While many of their peers head off to the beaches of Cancun and Florida for colleges' annual spring break, 96 students from Hamilton College are packing up to do volunteer work in eight cities during Hamilton's break, from March 15-29. The students are participating in Alternative Spring Break, a series of trips geared toward community service.

Twelve members of the class of 2002 were elected to the Hamilton College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa on Feb. 28. The students are: Ava Bromberg, Curtis Confer, Lauren Cuozzo, Kristopher Gerardi, David Kolb, Tomasz Konopka, Marcus Loveland, Ann Toth, Christopher Viapiano, Rebecca Walker, Nathan Weston and Danielle Wittern.

Assistant Professor of Philsophy Marianne Janack will be guest lecturer at the next Humanities Forum, on Monday, March 11, at 4:10 p.m. in the Red Pit. Her topic is "On Wonder," or, "How to Make a Philosophical Problem Out of Melting Wax."

The Department of Romance Languages presents a forum,"Islam in the French and Spanish-Speaking World," on Monday, March 11 at 4:10 p.m. in Dwight Lounge, Bristol Campus Center.

Kevin Burns, a 1977 graduate of Hamilton, was among producers interviewed for A&E's special "Biography: 15 Years and Counting," which aired on March 4. Burns has produced a number of segments for the popular "Biography" series, including Marilyn Monroe.

Assistant Professor of Women's Studies Vivyan Adair was an invited panelist for a New York City Bar Association forum on TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) reauthorization in March. Adair discussed the 1996 welfare reform legislation with fellow panelists Martha Davis of the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund; Verna Eggleston, commissioner, Human Resources administration; Mark Kissinger, Governor Pataki's department of Human Services; and Wendy Mink, professor, Smith College.
