Hamilton’s need-blind admission policy is the focus of a Dec. 18 feature story published by Huffington Post titled “How One Top College Ended a Policy that Weeded Out Poor Students.” The article detailed how Hamilton made the decision to eliminate merit scholarships and later to adopt the need-blind policy that eliminates applicants' financial need from consideration in admission decisions.

Greenhouse and Invertebrate Care Technician Hillary Joy Pitoniak was appointed president of the Northeast Herbal Association (NEHA) last month. She is a certified herbalist who has studied medicinal herbs for 13 years.

Hamilton's fall semester comes to a close today as final exams conclude. Students have spent the last week preparing for finals and putting the finishing touches on projects. There are plenty of study spaces for groups and individuals on campus and College photographer Nancy L. Ford captured some of them hard at work on the Hill this week.

The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art’s exhibition, Renée Stout: Tales of the Conjure Woman, has been selected by HyperAllergic, the award-winning art blog with over a million readers, as one of the top 10 exhibitions in the United States. The Wellin exhibition of works was listed as #7 by the online publication.

The Hamilton Outing Club (HOC) recently collaborated with WHCL, the college’s radio station, to present Hamilton Hum-The Great Outdoors a student storytelling event.

Eleven Hamilton students have received creativity grants from the Steven Daniel Smallen Memorial Fund. The 2015 recipients are Saige Devlin ’18, Max Freedman ’17, Corinne Hom ’16, Chris Labora ’16, Asad Javed ’16, Lily Johnston ’16, Hristina Mangelova ’16, Laura Rivera ’16, John Rufo ’16, Charlotte Simons ’16 and Zoe Tessler ’16.

Students participating in Hamilton’s Program  in New York City recently had the opportunity to visit Facebook. Fabio Freyre ’83 (VP of Global Marketing Solutions at Facebook), gave the students a tour of the New York office and shared his insights about the company. According to Freyre, Facebook’s goal is to connect the world through its family of apps: Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Ivan Rasmussen presented “How to Make Friends: Chinese Partnership and Alliance Strategy in Southeast Asia” on Dec. 10 at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

The Hamilton College Town-Gown Fund made $58,600 in grants to 11 organizations serving the Town of Kirkland and the Village of Clinton, bringing the total disbursed from the endowment to more than $628,000.

COOP Senior Fellows Sarah Graves '16 and Sarah Thomsen '16, along with John Thomsen '19, played Santa and delivered gifts to children at Upstate Cerebral Palsy in Utica. Hundreds of gifts and numerous food baskets were donated by Hamilton staff and students for the COOP and HAVOC's annual holiday gift drive.
