Fiona Griffin ’18, a psychology major, credits her father, an autism behavior specialist, with inspiring her drive to work with the autism community.

The New England Center for Children (NECC), a school for children diagnosed with autism, has a long-standing close relationship with Hamilton College.  NECC was founded by Hamilton alumnus, Vincent Strully Jr. ’69, who serves as chief executive officer. Each semester, students interested in education and psychology work and take courses there as part of Hamilton’s cooperative education program, managed by James L. Ferguson Professor of Psychology Jonathan Vaughan.  Rosmery Rodriguez ’15 is interning as a full-time teacher with the Center’s students this summer.

Fifteen Hamilton students and three faculty and staff members traveled to the New England Center for Children (NECC) in Southborough, Mass., on March 30.  Students who had expressed interest in pursuing internships and careers at the center were invited to tour the facility and meet members of the staff.

Dean of Faculty Patrick D. Reynolds announced the appointment of two of Hamilton's most outstanding teacher-scholars to endowed chairs. Professor of Biology David Gapp was appointed to the Silas D. Childs Chair, and Professor of Psychology Jonathan Vaughan was appointed to the James L. Ferguson Chair. Both appointments were effective July 1.
