The dedication of Morris House as Hamilton’s newest residence hall and a lecture by career diplomat Thomas Pickering about the status of Iran will be among highlights of Hamilton’s Fallcoming Weekend, Oct. 1-4.   Football, men’s and women’s soccer and field hockey will host games on Saturday, a capella groups will perform and the Alumni Association will hold its annual recognition dinner.

For the past two decades, the Hamilton Outing Club has designated one fall weekend as 46 Peaks Weekend. The goal:  to put at least one Hamilton student on the summit of each and every one of the 46 mountains in the Adirondacks that are above 4,000 feet in elevation. This past weekend (Sept. 25-27) HOC succeeded in accomplishing this goal for the second time ever -- marking two years in a row that this achievement has been made.

Ambassador Thomas Pickering, a career foreign service officer and distinguished fellow, foreign policy, at the Brookings Institution, will deliver a lecture titled “Iran: Deal or No Deal?” on Friday, Oct. 2, at 4:30 p.m., in the Chapel. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Two exhibitions saturated with historical and cultural references, Karen Hampton: The Journey North and Tales of the Conjure Woman: Lady Fatima as Transmitted through Renée Stout, will open at Hamilton’s Wellin Museum of Art on Saturday, Oct. 3, with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception and exhibitions are free and open to the public and will be on view through Dec. 20.

Associate Professor of Religious Studies Quincy Newell discussed lesser known aspects of Mormonism in the 19th century when she presented the 21st annual Leonard J. Arrington Mormon History Lecture on Sept. 24 at Utah State University.

“A Masque of Mercy,” a project space exhibition featuring the work of Katharine Kuharic, the Kevin W. Kennedy Professor of Art, opens Oct. 1 at the Philip Slein Gallery in downtown St. Louis.

While all superheroes have their secret identities, not many get to have a secret history as well. As New Yorker writer Jill Lepore, author of The Secret History of Wonder Woman, would explain in her lecture – sponsored by the Johnson Family Fund, the Dean of Faculty, Days-Massolo Center and the Kirkland Endowment – the mysterious past of Wonder Woman explains much more than just the origin of a fictional character.

Eight Hamilton College athletes served as volunteer referees at a Special Olympics New York bocce ball tournament held at the Toccolana Club in Rome, N.Y., on Sept. 12. Hamilton Women’s Hockey and Softball joined the Baseball team for what has become an uplifting annual event for both Hamilton’s athletes and the Special Olympians they are there to support.

Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald has published a nonfiction novel, Binghamton Babylon, (Suny Series, Horizons of Cinema)  which documents one of the crucial creative adventures in the history of the academic study of cinema.

The fall F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series starts Sunday, Sept. 27, as the Alloy Orchestra provides live accompaniment for The Man with a Movie Camera (1929). All F.I.L.M. screenings are on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. in the Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building and are free and open to the public.
