  • Josh Sundquist, a paralympic ski racer and nationally-known inspirational comedian, will present "The Funniest Disability Awareness Program in America" on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Events Barn. The presentation includes funny stories about Josh's experiences as a professional ski racer, his life as an amputee and his childhood battle with cancer to redefine stereotypes about disability and diversity.

  • Professor of French John O'Neal recently concluded his second term as president of the Northeast American Society for 18th-Century Studies (NEASECS). He presided over the annual conference of the Society, held this year at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

  • Senior Lachlan Markay wrote an opinion piece, "Taxation as Vandalism," that will appear in the January/February issue of the Foundation for Economic Education's The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty. The article currently appears on the organization's Web site.

  • Hamilton employee contributions to the Community Outreach Campaign totaled $50,647, breaking previous employee giving records and surpassing the $50,000 goal. Contributions to the United Way topped $5,000, and Greater Utica Community Food Bank gifts exceeded $11,000. Last year's campaign raised $45,342, and the 2006-2005 campaign raised $34,913.

  • Frank Sciacca, associate professor of Russian, has written an article titled "Hamilton College Grows a Historical Cultural Revolution" that appears in the fall 2008 issue of The Snail, a slow Food USA magazine. The article described some of Hamilton's sustainability initiatives including the Community Farm Garden and the 1812 Garden.

  • Hamilton College field hockey player Erin McNally '12 (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake HS) has been selected to the 2008 all-Rookie Team for NCAA Division III by womensfieldhockey.com.

  • Excelsior: The Campaign for Hamilton ended in June of this year, surpassing its $175 million goal and demonstrating the incredible volunteer effort, passion and generosity of Hamilton's alumni and friends. The impact of their investment on students, faculty and the entire college community is significant. Reaching $183.3 million, Excelsior also included two record-breaking annual funds spanning 2006–2008 and the College's largest single gift in its history.   • At the invitation of the Lycée Français de New York, Professor of French John C. O'Neal presented a lecture on the age of the Enlightenment to an audience of 100 juniors and seniors in the school's auditorium on November 7. These high school students are currently studying this era, which is O'Neal's period of specialization. O'Neal illustrated his lecture with some 80 slides documenting the interdisciplinary nature of the 18th century in France.

  • This is the second in a series of features on Hamilton's 2008-09 Senior Fellows.  Growing up with a mother in the nursing profession and three uncles employed within the medical field, Matthew Crowson's attraction to science developed at an early age. He remembers hearing their personalized accounts of difficult or unusual cases and "thinking they were cool and gory." His curiosity continued to build, and eventually influenced him to take AP Biology in high school. "Ever since, I've been hooked," he explains.
