The Washington Post’s “On Faith” blog published “And the Oscar for Best Image of God in a motion picture goes to . . .” on March 4. Written by Visiting Associate Professor of Religion S. Brent Plate, the article will appear in The Washington Post’s print edition shortly. Plate reviewed the films of 2009 and the manner in which they explored the image of the human and the image of God.

Alan Rapp, former senior editor at Chronicle Books in San Francisco, will present a lecture titled “Publishing Books on Art, Design, Architecture, and Photography” on Tuesday, March 9, at 4:10 p.m., in the Red Pit (KJ 127). The event is free and open to the public.

Carolyn Carpan, Burke Library’s director of public services, has published “Introducing Information Literacy 2.0,” the first installment of her new column “Library Services in the Age of Google.” The column appears in the latest edition of College & Undergraduate Libraries, a quarterly journal that provides practical information for the librarians and staff of undergraduate institutions.

A writer from age 16, Margaret Atwood has created a successful career, garnered many awards in both poetry and prose, and has received international acclaim. Throughout her career she has shown loyalty to her fellow writers and to the causes she champions.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand came to Hamilton on Friday, March 5, to host an economic round table with community, business and government leaders. President Joan Stewart greeted the senator as she arrived at Eels House. Approximately two dozen attendees discussed major issues facing the area with the senator.

At the recent annual meeting of the American Microscopical Society (AMS), Professor of Biology and Associate Dean of Faculty Pat Reynolds was guest of honor at the Society’s luncheon and presented with a plaque to commemorate his service as editor-in-chief of the Society’s quarterly journal Invertebrate Biology. Reynolds served 12 years as an editor, the last six as editor-in-chief.

Congratulations to the Hamilton Club Ice Hockey team, that took home the Upstate New York Club Hockey League (UNYCHL) championship after a victory over Le Moyne College in Sage Rink on Saturday, Feb. 27. Hamilton, coached by Visiting Assistant Professor of Geosciences Robin Mattheus, beat Le Moyne 7-6 in overtime, clinching its first UNYCHL title.

Hamilton's 2010 Public Speaking Competition will take place on Saturday, March 6, from 1-5 p.m., in the Chapel. Thirteen students will compete for three different prizes in this annual event: The McKinney Prize, The Clark Prize, and The Warren Wright Prize.

Associate Professor of Dance Bruce Walczyk presented “African Martial Art Concepts & Capoeira” and “Kali/Silat: Filipino & Malaysian Martial Culture” at the American College Dance Festival Conference held Feb. 19 - 22 at Mercyhurst College .

A book with a chapter coauthored by Hamilton faculty Ernest Williams, Patrick Reynolds and Onno Oerlemans has been published by the University of Iowa Press. The chapter, “Interdisciplinary Teaching about the Adirondacks,” appears in Nature and Culture in the Northern Forest, (edited by Pavel Cenkl, 2010).
