Combine the pressure of midterms with the added stress of COVID-19, and life for students on College Hill can be more difficult than normal. That’s what motivated more than 1,700 alumni, parents, and friends to Send Some Love.

Six faculty members were approved for tenure by Hamilton’s Board of Trustees at its recent meeting. They include Catherine Beck (geosciences), Erica De Bruin (government), Susan Jarosi (art history), Jaime Kucinskas, (sociology), Alexandra Plakias (philosophy), and Jesse Weiner (classics).

Construction is scheduled to begin in April on the $2 million structure, which is located on the Erie Canal in Rome’s Bellamy Harbor Park and should be ready to use in August.

Eleanna “Ele” Sorensen ’23 will hone her long-time interest in the Arabic language as the recipient of a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS).

Elizabeth McCormack, a trustee on College Hill for 45 years, was Kirkland and Hamilton’s E.F. Hutton. She died on Dec. 4, 2020, one month after learning she would receive the Bell Ringer Award, the Alumni Association’s highest honor.

As a doctoral student whose research agenda was hobbled by the pandemic, the award was especially sweet: Nejla Asimovic ’16 recently received a prestigious grant from the American Political Science Association to expand the scope of her dissertation.

The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) elected Hamilton College President David Wippman as one of nine new members to its board of trustees at the commission’s 65th annual meeting on March 2.

In an email to the Hamilton community on March 9, President David Wippman announced developing plans to resume some long-awaited co-curricular activities.
