The Hamilton College Writing Program announced "Alexander Hamilton's List," a group of more than 100 students who have been recognized by the faculty for their achievements in writing in the Fall, 2002, semester.

Hamilton College is one of seven Mohawk Valley colleges that will participate in a new Cross-Registration Program, which will enable students at the schools to take courses at each of the other schools in the program. The program is part of a new Mohawk Valley College Consortium sponsored by Oneida County and announced by Oneida County Executive Ralph Eannace on Jan. 23. The program will begin in the Fall 2003 semester.

It's time to sign up for the annual America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk, being held this year on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Utica College. Run as a team, walk with your friends, make this a team challenge! There are many ways to participate, from the 30k run to the 3 mile walk. Last year's team raised $6,454 with 89 participants, and this year's organizers, Marylyn Nassimos and Kelly Walton, are confident Team Hamilton can raise even more money this year.

In writing his new book, The Big Band Days: A Memoir and Source Book,, Jack Behrens used materials from the Hamilton College Jazz Archive. In addition, Archive Director Monk Rowe supplied Behrens with the book’s foreword as well as many quotes on the big band period.

Around the Hill reporter Amy James spent time ferreting out New Year's resolutions on the Hamilton campus and found it "requires a certain amount of detective work accompanied by a heavy dose of persuasion."

Chair of Asian Studies Thomas Wilson's book, On Sacred Grounds: Culture, Society, Politics, and the Formation of the Cult of Confucius was published by Harvard University Press.

Assistant Professor of English Gillian Gane published an article, "Mistakes in the Contact Zone," in AlterNation: International Journal for the Study of Southern African Literature and Languages Vol. 9, No. 1 (2002).

Assistant Library Systems Manager Peter MacDonald has been appointed as a member of the newly formed Digitization Committee of the Central New York Library Resources Council. MacDonald brings a wealth of experience from his work with Harvard Law Library's Digital Collection Pilot Project of trial transcripts, briefs and other documents relating to the International Military Tribunal and the United States Nuremberg Military Tribunal. He is currently developing digital access and preservation for Burke Library's special collections of Civil War documents, letters and other artifacts.

Robert M. Colley, a 1966 graduate of Hamilton College, has been appointed associate dean of marketing and distance education at University College of Syracuse University. He will oversee the college’s marketing, advertising, public relations and publications efforts. Colley will also direct the college’s development of distance and online programs.

An event-filled weekend celebrating the tradition of ice hockey at Hamilton will be held Feb. 21-23 on the Hill. Activities will include men's varsity games against Colby and Bowdoin and an Alumni Hockey Game. A highlight of the weekend will be the retirement of former Continental goaltender Guy Hebert's jersey. A 1989 graduate, Hebert went on to become the Anaheim Mighty Ducks' first overall pick in the 1993 expansion draft. He is the franchise's leader in games, wins, starts, minutes, saves and shutouts. Hebert is currently the Mighty Ducks Alumni Association director.
