The Hamilton College Department of Music presents a free faculty recital by Heather Buchman, trombone, on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., in Wellin Hall. Buchman will be accompanied by Sar-Shalom Strong, piano, and Ilze Brink-Button, horn, in the program of solo works and transcriptions for trombone by Bach, Scarlatti, Mahler and others.

 

Buchman is director of the orchestra and the chamber music program at Hamilton College. Former principal trombone of the San Diego Symphony, she has also gained international recognition as a solo trombonist.

 

She has had guest conducting engagements with the Society for New Music in Syracuse, Monarch Brass, and the U.S. Coast Guard Band Brass. In 2008 Buchman was awarded a Women Conductors Grant from the League of American Orchestras to study conducting in St. Petersburg, Russia.
