Professor of Art History Emeritus and Senior Lecturer in Art History Rand Carter was celebrated by some of his former students during Fallcoming/Family Weekend in October. Michael Shapiro ’71 and David Nathans ’72 worked with the Office of Alumni Relations to organize the event. Carter, who joined the Hamilton faculty in 1970, retired at the end of the 2016-17 academic year.
About 20 of Carter’s former students gathered at the Across the Road Bistro in Clinton. Former students from the class of ’71 through the class of ’15 spoke about Carter as a teacher, mentor and friend, embracing his eccentricities with warmth and great humor.
Shapiro said, “Someone summed it up that only at a small college could many warm personal relationships over many years be nurtured with a professor.”
