President Joan Hinde Stewart was awarded an honorary degree during the 2016 commencement ceremony of Hobart and William Smith (HWS) Colleges on Sunday, May 15, in Geneva, N.Y.
Stewart was among five honorary degree recipients “whose spirit of service enhances local, national and global communities,” according to HSW. The others included Dr. Cheryl Dorsey, the president of Echoing Green and a global leader and innovator in the social entrepreneurship movement, who will offer the commencement address; civic leader Judith Hershey Melly; HWS alumna and board chair Maureen Collins Zupan; and John F. Collins, a HWS parent and grandparent, World War II veteran and retired New York City police officer.
