Oftentimes students feel as though there is a dichotomy between the sciences and the arts and that they must choose one or the other. Enter Shelly Cao ’23, an art and mathematics double major pursuing a combination of both through architecture and showing the paths that emerge from pursuing interdisciplinary interests.

Congratulations Student Class & Charter Day Awardees!
Some 159 students were honored with academic prizes and scholarships, and faculty were recognized for receiving teaching awards and dean’s scholarly achievement prizes, at Hamilton’s annual Class & Charter Day convocation on May 9. Earning special recognition were Ryan Smolarsky ’23, who received the James Soper Merrill Prize, and Eleanor “Ellie” Sangree ’24, who was awarded the Fillius Drown Scholarship.

Hamilton College President Announces Retirement
David Wippman, who will step down in June 2024 after eight years, focused on bringing the most talented students to Hamilton, providing the scholarship aid they needed to enroll, and offering them greater opportunities for intellectual engagement and increased support.

In its final meeting of the 2022-23 academic year, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 25 members of the Class of 2023.

Growing up in the suburbs of Rochester, N.Y., Jackson Vogt ’23 was undecided between the University of Rochester and Hamilton College. “I had a lot of friends going to the University of Rochester, but it seemed a bit too close to home,” he said. Now, four years, two majors, and an Amazon internship later, Vogt has accepted a full-time position at Amazon Web Services.(AWS) as part of their web design and development team.
