Presidential Search Update

By Bob Delaney '79 and Linda Johnson '80

Dear Members of the Hamilton Community,

We write to share an update on the progress of the search for Hamilton’s next president. We are pleased to report the search is progressing well and on schedule.

Thank you to all of you who shared your perspectives on the presidential search by participating in listening sessions and completing the campus feedback survey. Your engagement and input regarding the opportunities and challenges facing the next president and the leadership skills and experience needed to best address them has been important in informing the recruitment and evaluation of candidates.

The search committee has been hard at work with several meetings, including professional training to help mitigate unconscious bias in the search process. The committee is a remarkably productive group with varied perspectives from faculty, students, staff and trustees.

Our search partners at Isaacson, Miller have been working closely with their extensive network to identify and recruit qualified candidates and follow up on nominations of, and inquiries from, potential candidates. They report that the position has been well received by potential candidates. The search committee has been pleased with the response to the recruitment effort, which has resulted in a talented and diverse candidate pool.

In the weeks ahead, the search committee will begin a thorough assessment of candidates. There will be several rounds of interviews, as well as rigorous referencing for the strongest candidates. Candidates’ identities will remain confidential throughout the process in order to attract the strongest and most diverse pool.

We will be in touch again in the coming weeks to provide another update on the progress of the search. In the meantime, we can always be reached at pres-search@hamilton.edu if you have questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Bob Delaney ‘79

Linda Johnson ‘80
