Visiting Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Janelle Schwartz ’97 and Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings were invited to attend Adirondack Day on April 27 at the New York State Legislative Office Building in Albany, N.Y.

Hamilton College is launching a new domestic off-campus study program this fall with 10 students, a professor-in-residence, 50 local partners and a six-million-acre classroom.

Mark and Kristin Kimball, owners and operators of Essex Farm in the Adirondacks, will present a lecture titled “Food Ethics: A Farmer’s Perspective” on Tuesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the Taylor Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The Kimballs’ lecture is free and open to the public.

The first installment of a bimonthly column by Janelle Schwartz ’97, visiting assistant professor of English and creative writing and general director of the Academic Program in the Adirondacks, was published on Nov. 16 in The Adirondack Almanack.

Hamilton’s Academic Program in the Adirondacks, set to begin in fall 2015, has a home.  The program will be based at The Mountain House in Keene, N.Y., in the heart of the High Peaks, near a popular trailhead for Hurricane Mountain, as well as Big Crow and Little Crow.

Through Hamilton’s off-campus study programs students can witness the inner workings of government in Washington, D.C., or experience the heart of the U.S. financial and publishing industries in New York. Now they’ll have yet another option for off campus study, a bit closer to campus and in a far less urban setting. Hamilton’s faculty recently approved the creation of a pilot off-campus semester-long Program in the Adirondacks. The proposed start date is fall 2015.
