  • The Hamilton College Theatre Department announces the spring production, Antigonick, Anne Carson’s stunning translation of Sophokles’ luminous and disturbing tragedy, given entirely fresh language and new life. Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer directs the play, modern retelling of the Greek tragedy set in the Oval Office 2017, and explores kakocracy - rule or government by the worst of the people, authoritarianism, misogyny, hubris.

  • The Hamilton College Performing Arts Series closes the spring series with Yarn/Wire on Friday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center. The concert will include the premiere of “When All Else Fails” written for the group by Hamilton College’s Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Ryan Carter.

  • The 64-member College Choir with Professor of Music and Choir Director Rob Kolb are on a 10-day spring break tour of Italy. Choir member Kate Brouns ’17 has been reporting on the group’s travels. After performances in Rome, Florence and Ravenna, the final stop was Venice.

  • Following a fall semester abroad in the UK, Timothy Hartell ’18 wasted no time getting back into the rhythm of theatre at Hamilton, presenting a one-man show titled Room 101 on Feb. 24 and 25. Hartell describes the piece as “a performed discussion of repetition and exhaustive pleasure/pain and the neo-baroque and the queer body in space and TIME and everything else and nothing really.”

  • To round off Black History Month, the Black and Latinx Student Union (BLSU) hosted its annual talent showcase and put on a hip-hop and activism interactive presentation from Jermaine Wells and the ILL Funk Ensemble.

  • As finals week begins, some theatre students got a head start on their exams by presenting a practical application of their skills with the annual Director’s Showcase.

  • It’s no secret that Hamilton students tend to keep busy, balancing extracurricular activities and academic work. Many have found a good way to let off some steam is through various manners of performing. Rehearsal rooms and performance spaces around campus are filled into the wee hours of the morning as students rehearse singing, dancing and other performances. In celebration of these talented student performers, we have compiled a brief round-up of the various performance arts groups on the Hill.
