Nearly 100 women of color, including students, faculty, and staff, gathered in Tolles Pavilion on February 29 to honor and learn from each other’s experiences as part of a student-led tradition that is unique to Hamilton: Womanist Week.

A soft glow filled campus on Feb. 3 as the Hamilton community honored the Black Lives Matter movement through a virtual vigil. The event, which kicked off Black History Month, featured ice and paper bag luminarias that were lighted and placed outside the Days-Massolo Center, the Chapel, and Sadove Student Center.

To round off Black History Month, the Black and Latinx Student Union (BLSU) hosted its annual talent showcase and put on a hip-hop and activism interactive presentation from Jermaine Wells and the ILL Funk Ensemble.

The Hamilton College Department of Music presents The Voice: New Jazz Artists with “Doc” Woods on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn.

Dr. Noliwe Rooks, associate director of the Center for African American Studies at Princeton University, will join Hamilton students in a panel discussion on hair and self-expression on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ. The panel will be moderated by Professor of Classics and Africana Studies Shelley Haley and is free and open to the public.  

To commemorate Black History Month, the Days-Massolo Center will screen the comedy documentary Good Hair on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 4:15 p.m., in the Center on College Hill Road. The screening is free and open to the public.

The Days-Massolo Center is hosting several events to commemorate Black History Month in February including a film series and a performance. All events are free and open to the public.

"Hip-hop saved my life. It has saved many lives. It kept me focused and driven to move beyond my circumstances," said Don C. Sawyer III, the director of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, instructor at Syracuse University, and this year's Black History Month keynote speaker.

To commemorate Black History Month, the Days-Massolo Center will screen the documentary Brother Outsider: Life of Bayard Rustin, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 4:15 p.m., at the Center on College Hill Road. The screening is free and open to the public.
