Nine faculty members were approved for tenure by the College’s Board of Trustees at its March meeting.

National and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, alumni, and students for their expertise and perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus. February’s news topics included the economy, Black history, and a new college president, among others.

Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Jack Martinez-Arias recently published an article titled "Medioambiente y transculturación en El abrazo de la serpiente (2015)" ["Environmentalism and Transculturation in Embrace of the Serpent (2015)"] in the peer-reviewed journal Brújula: revista interdisciplinaria de estudios latinoamericanos.

Professor of Philosophy and Africana Studies A. Todd Franklin was recently interviewed for the social justice news organization Truthout.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Michael Welsh has received a prestigious Cottrell Scholar Award, a $120,000 grant for research and education from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. The grant will fund his proposed project, Characterization of Enzymes that Build and Degrade Spore Cortex Peptidoglycan.

Shoshana Keller, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of History, was invited to lead a session for Harvard University’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies as part of its Engaging Eurasia Teacher Fellowship program.

In preparation for a new volume titled Genealogy: A Genealogy (ed. Erlenbusch-Anderson and Lorenzini) with Columbia University Press, A. Todd Franklin, professor of philosophy and Africana studies, and other contributors met online January 12 and 13 for a workshop devoted to each author presenting their chapter and discussing it with fellow contributors.

As Associate Professor of Biology Andrea Townsend was investigating how infectious disease affects the problem-solving performance of American crows, she was surprised to discover how few studies compared the effects of disease on cognition in other species.

More than a dozen professionals from museums in central New York came together on College Hill in November to talk about their collections and missions with faculty and other members of the College community interested in Hamilton’s new curatorial studies initiative.

In July, Professor Emeritus of French John C. O'Neal presented a paper in French on occupational illnesses in 18th-century Europe, honoring the late Gabriel Richet of the French Academy of Medicine, whom he mentioned as a partner in this project.
