Associate Professor of Economics Ann Owen was quoted in a front page story in The Christian Science Monitor on Wednesday, Oct. 8. In "Fed makes boldest move yet," an article that discussed the Federal Reserve's decision to buy short-term debt directly from the largest U.S. corporations, Owen observed that if other economic indicators were looking more positive, the Fed would not be taking such dramatic steps.

On the same day, The New York Times Book Review listed Fallen Giants, Isserman's new book, co-authored with University of Rochester history professor Stewart Weaver, as an "editors' pick" of the week.

Assistant Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh exhibited three pieces from the Sweetest Battle and Seeing Stars series in Beautiful Losers at the Gallery RFD in Swainsboro, Ga. The gallery is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote economic enrichment in rural communities through the arts. The show was curated by the co-founders of shotgun-review.com, Joseph del Pesco and Scott Oliver, and ran from Sept. 11 through Oct. 4.

A video featuring six Hamilton students discussing the vice presidential debate on Thursday, Oct. 2, tops the Washington Post Vote '08 Web site. Produced by senior Eric Kuhn, the video features sophomore Scott Bixby and seniors Kara Labs, Melissa Balding, Sam Risen, David Riordan and Allison Gaston-Enholm. Five students felt that Biden had prevailed in the debate and one student was undecided. The video, which also is on the CBS News site, appears with a video produced on the campus of Columbia University.

A video created by alumna Miranda Raimondi '08 when she was a student at Hamilton is being included in a film screening in New York City on Tuesday, Oct 7, at 8 p.m. "blue" will be shown at The Light Industry as part of "Come Softly - "Be Continuous Often," curated by Mark McElhatten.The Light Industry is located in Industry City at 55 33rd St. (3rd Floor), Brooklyn, New York. Admission is $6.

James Bradfield, the Elias W. Leavenworth Professor of Economics, appeared on a news segment on NBC affiliate WKTV on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in an interview on the current state of the economy. Bradfield said that he felt certain that the college's many economics graduates could look forward to bright futures in business despite current market turbulence.

As the keynote speaker for the 2008 New York Conference on Asian Studies, University of Michigan professor Barbara D. Metcalf spoke on Saturday, Sept. 27, about misconceptions related to Islam. Her talk, titled "Telling The Story of Islam in Asia: Reflections on Teleologies and Timelessness," used the work of several older sources to illustrate many of the ideas that continue to affect our perceptions.

A group of Hamilton students and psychology professors Jean Burr and Lynn Evans took a trip to the New England Center for Children (NECC) in Southborough, Mass. on Friday, Sept. 26, to learn more about the center's programming. NECC is a community-based residential school for children and adults with autism, behavior disorders, mental retardation and other related developmental disabilities.

An opinion piece written by Assistant Professor of Government Peter Cannavo appeared in The Providence Journal on Saturday, Sept. 27, and in the Syracuse Post-Standard on Monday, Sept. 29, titled "Palins redefine paterfamilias" and "Palins shake up gender role debate" respectively.
