Princeton University Professor and 2017 MacArthur “Genius” Award winner Dr. Betsy Levy Paluck presented innovative research on the effects of social norms and community behavior in a lecture at Hamilton on Nov. 5. Paluck’s presentation, Reducing Prejudice and Bullying in Our World Today: The Role of Social Norms, was this year’s James S. Plant Distinguished Scientist Lecture. Paluck dedicated her presentation to Devah Pager, a dear friend and fellow social psychologist whose research on race, crime and mass incarceration broke new ground in understanding racial discrimination in America.

A group of Hamilton students were recently recognized for their commitment project at the Clinton Global Initiative University in Chicago. Ngoc Ngo ‘20, Tiffany Ly ‘20, and Hyein Kim ‘20 were honored for their project in a session on keeping girls in school. Their team also includes Kimberly Ly ’20 and Michelle Chung ‘’20 who are abroad and were unable to attend CGI U.

Associate Professor of Art History Stephen J. Goldberg recently addressed the International Symposium on Kang Youwei’s Calligraphic Study in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China.

McCullough Shriver ’13, the founder of activewear brand Sweetflexx, won the grand prize at Hamilton’s annual Pitch Competition on Nov. 4. Nico Yardas ’18, Aaron Beguelin ’18, and Sebastian Lissarrague ’18, the founders of Co-Operation, won 1st prize, and Robert Berk ’20, the founder of Apprentice, took 2nd prize.

Reese (R.O.) Kwon, a National Endowment for the Arts fellow, will read excerpts from her first book, The Incendiaries, on Nov. 5, at 4 p.m., in the Dwight Lounge, Bristol Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Betsy Levy Paluck, a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” fellow , will present the James S. Plant Distinguished Scientist Lecture on Monday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel.

The Hamilton College Theatre Department presents the Fall Theater Production, King Stag, written by Carlo Gozzi and directed by Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell.
