The Hamilton College Department of Music presents a Faculty Recital with Allan Kolsky, clarinet, accompanied by Sar-Shalom Strong, piano, and Michael Bull, snare drum, on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

Kashmiri-American poet Agha Shahid Ali, a former Hamilton College professor, will be honored through a series of events taking place at Hamilton on Sept. 19-20. The symposium, which is a part of The Beloved Witness Project, will celebrate his life as a renowned poet, teacher and influential author.

To commemorate America’s 227th “Constitution Day,” Professor of Government Robert Martin gave a talk on Sept. 17 titled “Alexander Hamilton’s Constitutional Order” in KJ’s Red Pit. “I come to history with a purpose,” he announced upon his introduction, immediately engaging his audience. The lecture focused on the hostile relationship between government and the press at a time when both were newly formed entities.

The fall 2014 F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series opens with J. P. Sniadecki's presentation of his new film The Iron Ministry on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m., in Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building. The screening is free and open to the public.

Mary L. Bonauto ’83 H’05, a leader of the campaign for same-sex marriage and LGBT rights, is among 21 recipients of a 2014 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. She is an attorney with Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) in Boston. Bonauto received an honorary degree from Hamilton in 2005.

Best-selling author and Bard College professor Daniel Mendelsohn will present a lecture, An Odyssey: A Father, A Son, and An Epic at Hamilton College on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 4:10 p.m., in the Taylor Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Andrew Holland premiered his designs for the new dance piece, "Secrets and Seawalls," at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center, in Garden City, N.Y., on Sept. 13.

Douglas Weldon, the Stone Professor of Psychology, was recently elected to fellow status in the American Psychological Association (APA).

Hamilton will name its 175-seat theatre in the new Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theatre and the Studio Arts for F. Eugene Romano ’49 in recognition of his lifetime giving which includes a $2.5 million donation for the center’s theatre. Romano and his wife, Loretta, together with their family, have dedicated much of their lives to improving the Mohawk Valley through their Utica-based businesses and their philanthropy to numerous local non-profit organizations.
