A poem by Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing Jane Springer, "Forties War Widows, Stolen Grain," was chosen for inclusion in this year's Best American Poetry Anthology.  Springer has been invited to read at the book launch ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 18, at The New School in New York City.

An article by Visiting Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Andrew Rippeon has been published in the current issue of Contemporary Literature. His article, "Bebop, Broadcast, Podcast, Audioglyph: Scanning Kamau Brathwaite's Mediated Sounds," examines the role sound media have played in the development of the Barbadian poet's politics and poetics.

A recent video from Assistant Professor of Art Robert Knight’s project In God's House is featured in GLOBALissues. CLIMATEmatters. SocialCHANGE at ArtRage in Syracuse, N.Y. The exhibition opens Saturday, Sept. 6, with a reception from 7-9 p.m., and continues through Oct. 18.

John Dovidio, the Carl Iver Hovland Professor of Psychology at Yale University, will present a lecture titled “The Subtlety of Contemporary Racism:  Implications for Intergroup Perceptions, Interaction, and Policy” on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 4:15 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Revolutionary Cycles in Chinese Cinema by Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang was recently published by Palgrave Macmillan.

President Joan Hinde Stewart presided over the annual Convocation ceremony that officially opened Hamilton’s 203rd year on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Members of the administration welcomed students and new faculty, and academic achievement prizes were awarded to 63 students.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi visited Hamilton and the department of psychology to meet with Assistant Professor of Psychology Jose M. Causadias on Sept 3. The purpose of the meeting with Brindisi, representative of the New York State Assembly's 119th District, was to discuss ways to better understand the experience of immigrant and refugee communities in Utica through research projects. The 119th district includes the city of Utica.

The Hamilton College Department of Music presents a variety of performances by faculty and students during the fall 2014 semester in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free of charge, unless otherwise noted.

Assistant Professor of History John Eldevik was recently invited to join the board of review editors at The Medieval Review, a leading online journal published by the Medieval Studies Institute at Indiana University.

Associate Professor and Chair of Africana Studies Heather Merrill published an article in Acme: An International E-Journal for Critical Geographies. The article is titled "Post-Colonial Borderlands: Black Life-Worlds and Relational Place in Turin, Italy" (Volume 13 (2) 2014).
