Eugene Domack, the Joel W. Johnson Family Professor of Environmental Studies, was the guest speaker at the October meeting of the Central New York Association of Professional Geologists (CNYAPG) in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Wellin Museum of Art welcomed 40 local teachers from nine school districts for An Evening of Art for Educators on Oct. 3. The event provided student docent-guided tours of the museum along with lesson plans related to its current exhibitions, A Sense of Place and Frohawk Two Feathers: You Can Fall.

Jen Kleindienst ’09, sustainability coordinator at Wesleyan University, will present a lecture titled “Challenges and Successes of Promoting Campus Sustainability,” on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ.  Her lecture, part of the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center Fall 2013 speaker series, is free and open to the public.

Barbara Gold, the Edward North Professor of Classics, presented a paper in Philadelphia on Oct. 12 at the annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Atlantic States.

Associate Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh will be exhibiting “Five Leaners” in the group show Meta Vista at 16 Wilson in Brooklyn, N.Y. The show runs Oct. 18 through Nov. 9, with a public opening reception on Oct. 18 from 6 – 9 p.m. Curating Contemporary is running a concurrent online exhibition of Meta Vista.

Angel David Nieves, associate professor of Africana studies and co-director of the Digital Humanities Initiative (DHi), presented at the Fourth Digital Witness Symposium.

Students in the Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain program (HCAYS) visited the Royal Gardens of La Granja. The excursion included visits to Salamanca, Segovia and a national park at the Sierra near Madrid.

Stephen Harper Kirner Professor of Computer Science Stuart Hirshfield, along with seven students, attended the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) of Women in Computing Conference Oct. 2 – 5 in Minneapolis.

Hamilton food service provider Bon Appétit Management Co. was named to the Daily Meal’s 60 Best Colleges for Food in America list for 2013. Hamilton College ranks 49th on the list.

Assistant Professors of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons and Andrew Dykstra presented invited research talks at the fall southeastern sectional meeting of the American Mathematical Society.
