As a senior fellow, Julia Afsar-Keshmiri ’26 has amassed a network of scientists to further unravel the mysteries of brain development and neurodegenerative diseases. Through her fellowship, Afsar-Keshmiri has the opportunity to devote her entire senior year to her project, giving her a taste of life as a professional researcher.

Hamilton students Angel Apollos ’26, Ricaldo Lewis ’26, and Mia Wrisley ’26 partnered with Eileen Brinck, OHSWA recycling coordinator, and Alma Lowry, lecturer in environmental studies, to create the app modeled after the “Am I Recyclable” feature on OHSWA’s website.

This summer, Levitt Center student researchers Luke Hanson ’26, Delaney Patterson ’26, Samuel Low ’28, and Ton Somnug ’27 joined forces with Griffiss Institute CEO and Hamilton alumna Heather Hage ’02 to investigate the holistic impact of federal spending on the local economy. In November, the Griffiss Institute released findings from the research study.

In 2020, when the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War forced Nana Hayrumyan ’27 and her family to flee to Armenia from their home in the Republic of Artsakh, her schooling was put on hold. But Hayrumyan never gave up her belief in the value of education.

With 26 locations needing a different number of food pallets each day — and 10 trucks each with their own capacity limits — designing an efficient route had been an arduous task for the Food Bank of Central New York (FBCNY). That’s where Hughes “Hugh” Williams ’26 came in. This summer he created an algorithm that can determine each day’s optimal route within seconds.

Victoria “Vicky” Holland Oliveira ’26, Nicholas Kreidler ’28, and Chloe Root ’28 embarked on an investigation of “third spaces” through a Levitt research grant this summer, seeking to understand the status and history of recreation and community in Utica, our neighboring city.
