From environmental justice in Flint, Mich., to hospitality in Thailand, Hamilton students made the most of their summer breaks by tackling internships in a breadth of fields and locales. Here are a selection of those learning experiences.

Looking to use her legal expertise to fight domestic violence, attorney Stephanie Nilva ’88 in 2003 launched the nonprofit organization Day One, which serves young people in New York City. She’s been its executive director since the beginning.

At first glance, Eric Grossman ’88 may seem like just another man in a power suit working at an investment bank in Manhattan. As the chief legal officer at Morgan Stanley, Grossman commutes from the New York suburbs, where he lives with his family. But here’s the twist: He wants to overturn a long-standing American tradition — the two-party political system.

The Peace Corps announced that Hamilton was listed 22nd among small schools on the agency’s 2017 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list. There are nine Hamilton alumni currently volunteering worldwide.

In 2009, Dave Stone ’88 ran the Boston Marathon—his first marathon—in memory of his brother, Ralph ’80, who was murdered in 1997. Since then, he has dedicated nine more marathons to his brother. He just completed his tenth and final one in their hometown of Syracuse.

Kate Beebe Horn ’88, and her company Foglamp Research Corp., has been illuminating a pathway to international markets for clients for almost 3 years. Now the light is growing brighter with its recent certification by WBENC (The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council) as a women owned business and CEO Kate Horn’s completion of the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses entrepreneur initiative.

Hamilton’s new Program in the Adirondacks got off to a good start with a welcome dinner hosted by Susan Bacot-Davis '88 at her home on Lake Champlain in Essex, NY. At the dinner the students met a few other alumni and several of the partners they would be working with throughout the semester.
