Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized nine faculty members with Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories — career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year — at the May 6 faculty meeting.

In an article published recently in the journal International Mathematical Forum, Robert Kantrowitz ’82, the Marjorie and Robert W. McEwen Professor of Mathematics, took a new look at a classical optimization problem that dates back to Heron of Alexandria (10–75 AD).

Hamilton President David Wippman announced the promotion of four faculty members to the rank of professor, as approved by the College’s Board of Trustees at its June meeting. They include Mark Cryer (theatre), Robert Knight (art), Michelle LeMasurier (mathematics and statistics), and Nigel Westmaas (Africana studies). All were effective July 1, 2024.

Just like the Writing and Oral Communication centers help students hone their writing and speaking skills, Hamilton’s Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) Center focuses on another aspect of the College’s curriculum by assisting students taking courses with a mathematics/quantitative component or who need statistical support for theses, research, and projects.

Hamilton’s Economics Department received one of Insight into Diversity’s 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Awards in recognition of its major curricular reforms designed to attract and retain underrepresented students.

We asked a few of our newest faculty to tell us why they chose Hamilton and share some initial thoughts about our community. Here's what they had to say:

"I’m admittedly only familiar with a handful of universities, but this is the first place I have been where it feels like everyone — students, faculty, staff, administrators — is on some sort of big team trying to make something great happen."

Hamilton’s faculty has voted unanimously to establish a minor in statistics. The new option, which consists of five courses, is available to students immediately. It follows the approval of a new teaching position in statistics, data science, probability, and stochastic processes.
