  • Brenda Davis, associate director of Opportunity Programs, was recently awarded the Arthur O. Eve Human Relations Award at the Higher Education Opportunity Program Professional Organization (HEOP-PO) conference in Buffalo. This award is given to an individual who “champions the issues of inclusion, access, and success while making post-secondary opportunities available to historically underrepresented students through their efforts at their institution and through their advocacy at the state level.”

  • Anyi Rescalvo was selected as a Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) student cabinet member representing Hamilton. In that role, she attended CICU’s Student Cabinet and Student Aid Advocacy Days on Feb. 10 and 11 in Albany, N.Y.

  • Forty members of the Class of 2023 began getting a head start on college when they arrived on June 30 for the Opportunity Programs intensive academic college transition program.

  • Students and staff from Opportunity Programs at Hamilton, Cazenovia College and MVCC headed to Albany for the New York State Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day on Feb. 14.

  • Minority Access, an organization committed to improving access in education, employment and research, recognized Hamilton as a National Diversity Institution at the 17th National Role Models Conference. Director of Opportunity Programs and Interim Director of Diversity and Inclusion Phyllis Breland, who nominated the College, accepted the award on Oct. 1 at the Washington, D.C., event.

  • Having arrived on campus on June 26, members of the Opportunity Program were among the first of the Class of 2020 to meet the college’s new president. David Wippman, who arrived on campus almost simultaneously with the students, joined the group of 39 for a photo followed by lunch on July 5.

  • Director of Opportunity Programs Phyllis A. H. Breland and Assistant Director Brenda C. Davis presented “Routine for Learning” on Nov. 12 at The New York State Higher Education Opportunity Program Professional Organization (HEOPPO) Biennial Conference in Fairport, N.Y.

  • Phyllis Breland ’80, director of Opportunity Programs and Pathways, has been named the recipient of the Tri-State Consortium of Opportunity Programs in Higher Education Alumni Award for 2013. She was honored at an award banquet on April 9 in Elizabeth, N.J.

  • On Monday June 28 the air was filled with excitement, nervousness and the smell of delicious Mexican food down the hill. Dean of Students Nancy Thompson welcomed the students of this year’s Opportunity Programs to her house for a festive meet and greet as part of the program’s summer session.

  • Hamilton College Opportunity Programs students got a taste of volunteer work when they participated in a statewide Opportunity Programs United Service Week in July.
