Professor of Comparative Literature Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz was an invited speaker on March 9 at the Brock University Archaeological Society’s Scholarly Symposium “Classics in Education: Ancient and Modern.” Her talk was titled “Academic Activism: Teaching Classics at Marcy Correctional Facility.”

Denise Eileen McCoskey, associate professor of classics and an affiliate in black world studies at Miami University of Ohio, will deliver a lecture titled “Race Matters: Re-Casting Identity Among the Greeks and Romans,” on Thursday, March 14, at 4 p.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium of the Taylor Science Center.  Her lecture is sponsored by Hamilton’s Classics department and is free and open to the public.

Stage/film/TV actress Blanche Baker P’15 visited Hamilton to give a two-day workshop on “Acting for Film,” on March 9 and 10.

“Good News, Bad News, and Consumer Confidence,” by Greg Casey ’09 and Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics of Ann Owen, was published in the March issue of Social Science Quarterly.

For the 10th annual installment of the Voices of Color Lecture Series honoring C. Christine Jonson, former director of the Higher Education Opportunities Program at Hamilton, the campus community was invited to share their evening with Dr. Cornel West, a renowned academic and social justice advocate who gave a lecture to a packed house in Wellin Hall.

Professor of French Joseph Mwantuali recently published a book titled Tell This to My Mother, a novel based on the true story of  war rape victim Coco Ramazani. Published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency, it is Mwantuali’s first book written in English.

Filmmaker Thomas Keith will screen his film “The Bro Code: How Contemporary Culture Creates Sexist Men,” on Tuesday, March 12, at 4 p.m., in the Kirner-Johnson Building’s Red Pit. Keith will facilitate a discussion of the film following the showing. The screening is sponsored by the Days-Massolo Center and is free and open to the public.

Asle Toje, acting research director for the Norwegian Nobel Institute, visited Hamilton on March 8 to discuss the history of the Nobel Peace Prize and its most recent recipient, the European Union. As research director Toje is responsible for gathering information on Nobel candidates for review by the Nobel committee.

Hamilton’s Athletics Department has been working on fostering a relationship with local Special Olympic athletes in conjunction with the NCAA Division III partnership with Special Olympics on a national level.

Two recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize will participate in a panel at Hamilton College as part of the Sacerdote Great Names Series on Wednesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. The event coincides with the 100th anniversary of Hamilton’s own Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1864 graduate and Clinton native Elihu Root, who won the 1912 award.
