Edgar Otero ’20 will be joining Urban Teachers in Washington, D.C. As part this program, Otero will complete a residency to become certified to teach full-time and obtain a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Education.

Since the day she arrived on campus, Anyi Rescalvo ’22 knew she wanted to give back to marginalized communities during her time at Hamilton. A daughter of immigrant parents, Rescalvo says she found the perfect way to do this — by teaching English to immigrants and refugees.

Rich Vellante ’86 was studying in Rome during his junior year at Hamilton when he befriended an Italian chef and discovered his passion for cooking. However, he hesitated to follow this newfound dream, thinking, “The idea of being a chef is not what a college graduate would ever pursue.” 

A few years out of Hamilton, Jessica Pedersen ’15 realized she wanted to be part of an enterprise with a mission, which led her to Pacific Community Ventures, a nonprofit that works to build a more sustainable, inclusive economy.

Democratic presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg received an honorary Doctor of Laws for his work to make higher education more affordable for qualified students from moderate- and low-income families.

Lea Barros ’22 was recently recognized with an award at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students.

Thanksgiving is just one day on the November calendar, but at Hamilton the holiday extended more than a week. Through on and off-campus events, members of the Hamilton community gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving and the extended break.

Hamilton College President David Wippman, who has taught and written on international law and human rights throughout his career, has been named to the Advisory Council of Refugees International.
