Samantha D'Angelo ’21 has been awarded a Coccia Foundation Scholarship for study in Italy. She is a physics major and Italian and history minor who plans to pursue her passions for Italian language and culture by studying in Taormina, Sicily, through the API Babilonia Institute Program.

When part of a 25-year-old press at Hamilton’s Print Shop unexpectedly broke down, the machine quickly became inoperable. Townsend Industries, the manufacturer of this T-51 printer, closed down in mid-2010, making it nearly impossible to find replacement parts for the press. Thanks to help from LITS and a student though, the machine is now back in service.

Associate Professor of Religious Studies Brent Rodriguez-Plate presented at several universities this spring. At each institution, he met with students who are using his 2014 book A History of Religion in 5½ Objects in their courses.

As director-general of Sharjah Museums Authority, Manal Ataya ’01 manages a diverse range of museums in her native United Arab Emirates. France recently awarded Ataya its Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, one of the country’s highest awards for cultural contributions.

Team Jillings, Uribe, Fowy was the overall winner of the 2019 HamTrek triathlon with a time of 58:06.48 on May 3. Swim team member Jake Fowy ’19 swam 21 lengths in the pool, Cross Country team member Anaidys 'Andy' Uribe ‘19 handled the running portion, and Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings biked for the winners.

Each semester, students in the Japanese department anticipate the event of the season: the bi-annual Red Pit party. Students and faculty members gather to celebrate their achievements, indulge in a delicious meal, and share their collaborative, creative projects.

Amy Gaffney, director of the Oral Communication Center, was recently recognized at the National Association of Communication Centers conference where she was awarded the Joyce Ferguson Faculty Paper Award.
