Summer Program

2016 Summer Program: June 26th - July 29th

Checklist

  1. Make transportation arrangements ( see below)
  2. Complete Summer Program questionnaire
  3. Review this page to see what to bring and what to leave at home
  4. Submit documentation:
    • Copy of medical insurance card
    • Signed copy of parent 2015 U.S. Federal tax form 1040
    • Signed copy of parent 2015 New York State tax form (NYS residents only)
  5. Submit medical records

Arrival:

  • Students should arrive on campus between the hours of 9 am and 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 26th.
  • An orientation meeting will take place promptly at 9:00 pm to welcome students.

Travel by Train, Bus, Airplane and Car:

  • Shuttle transportation will only be provided to and from the Utica NY train/ Greyhound bus station and Syracuse Hancock International Airport, Syracuse, NY.
  • Please notify the Opportunity Programs office (315) 859-4398 of your round trip travel plans by June 20th.  Inform us of flight information, if applicable: airline, flight number, any layover information, arrival time etc.

Departure information:

  • Airline departures for Friday, July 29th must be after 7:00pm or on the morning of Saturday, July 30th from Syracuse Hancock Airport, Syracuse, NY.
  • Train or bus departures for Friday, July 29th must be after 6:00pm or on the morning of Saturday, July 30th from the Utica NY train/Greyhound bus station.
  • The program ends at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 29th. Parents picking up students may leave campus after 5:00 pm Friday through 12:00 (noon) Saturday, July 30th.

Cell Phone Policy

Students may bring a cell phone, but will check it upon arrival. Cell phones will be returned to students each weekend.

 

Things to bring

  • Two sets of extra long sheets (80" in length - non-fitted sheets are best), pillow, pillowcases and a spread or blanket
  • Athletic, but comfortable bathing suit
  • Gym clothes, sweatshirt, sneakers and flip-flops
  • Rain gear, clothes and sneakers for outdoor activities
  • Extra pair of eyeglasses in case of accident, or prescription as an alternative
  • A watch
  • Alarm clock
  • Your original Green Card and/or Social Security card must be with you
  • Personal hygiene products

Dress Clothing for Two Special Events

Semi-formal dress required. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Breland.

  • YES: dress, dress shoes, suit jacket and tie required
  • NO: sneakers, casual or cargo pants


Things to leave at home

Bring ONLY what you need because there is NO STORAGE available for you to use at the end of the program.

  • Automobiles/ Bicycles: no private automobiles are authorized during the summer or the academic year for first-year students.
  • Computers, laptops, word processors, pagers, TVs, refrigerators and microwaves are not authorized during the summer.
  • Internet connecting devices: IPADS, Kindles, Etc.

 

Medical Information

Log into the student portal to submit all medical information prior to your arrival on campus.


Documentation

Please make sure the following documents are in the Opportunity Programs office PRIOR to your arrival to the Summer Program. Please provide signatures for both parents where applicable.

  • Copy of medical insurance card
  • Signed copy of parent U.S. Federal Tax Form 1040 for 2015
