Application Information

All candidates must come through the general admission process. Candidates who want to be considered for the HEOP and Scholar programs should be sure to request financial aid assistance on the common application. There is no separate application for HEOP or Scholars.

Program Eligibility

In order to be considered for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), you must be a resident of New York State and:

  • Possess a high school equivalency diploma, or the equivalent of a GED
  • Meet program academic criteria
  • Meet program economic guidelines

The minimum academic profile for potential HEOP and Scholar students is:

GPA 85
High School Rank Top 20%
SAT (new) 1150 (excludes writing component)
ACT 25 composite
High School Math 3 years
High School Science 3 years

Bear in mind that this profile serves as a guide. There are several factors that also are weighed in determining program eligibility; academic growth, test taking abilities, attendance, personal support systems, community involvement, special talents and motivation to succeed. Note that for the 2020-21 academic year, Hamilton is test optional for all applicants. Please refer to our guidance regarding standardized testing submission for more details.

A personal interview is required for HEOP transfer students.
