Associate Professor of Mathematics Andrew Dykstra presented a talk as part of a research seminar on “Operator Algebras and Dynamical Systems” at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) on Aug. 21.

Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn recently published “Global Indigeneity and Local Christianity: Performing O’odham Identity in the Present” as a chapter in the Handbook of Indigenous Religion(s).

Assistant Professor of Sociology Matthew Grace recently published “Subjective social status and premedical students’ attitudes towards medical school” in the journal Social Science & Medicine.

Associate Professor of Africana Studies Nigel Westmaas unearthed and published, with an introductory assessment, a significant speech made by a pioneer Guyanese and Caribbean labor leader Hubert Nathaniel Critchlow in March 1932. The Westmaas article, “Hubert Critchlow and the nexus between Christianity and Socialism” was published in Guyana’s national newspaper, the Stabroek News, on Aug. 20.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication Timothy Recuber recently gave a talk at the Media Sociology Pre-Conference of the American Sociological Association (ASA) Annual Meetings on Aug. 11.

Associate Professor of East Asian Languages Zhuoyi Wang recently gave an invited talk at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China.

Associate Professor of Mathematics Andrew Dykstra recently published a research article on symbolic dynamical systems in Journal d’Analyse Mathématique.

The college’s C.H.F. Peters Astronomical Observatory, located a short walk from the center of campus on Peters Lane, will host an eclipse party for them and any other interested members of the Hamilton community on Monday, Aug. 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Assistant Professor Courtney Gibbons recentlypresented joint work at the SIAM Applied Algebraic Geometry meeting at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. She has also begun writing the Errorbusters column in the math bimonthly magazine "Girls' Angle Bulletin."

Assistant Professor of Sociology Jaime Kucinskas is the lead author of a paper published in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion.
