Noha Abd El Moaty Mohamed '15

The distance between Noha’s home in Alexandria, Egypt, and Hamilton precluded a visit before she arrived as a freshman. Her exposure to the College came through the time she spent on the website “during which I was fascinated by the wide variety of disciplines offered and the number of facilities and activities available for students.” Over the past three years she has found the College has exceeded her original expectations. “Living and studying in a place that is so passionate about learning has been, and continues to be, life-changing for me.”

Double majoring in mathematics and women’s studies, Noha notes that “every class has helped me grow intellectually and personally by offering me new perspectives on the world and helping me explore new and fascinating concepts.” She has found herself particularly intrigued by theatre classes with Professor Mark Cryer, in which she discovered that defining an acting role is similar to defining your role in real life. “When you understand what you wish to accomplish, your actions are more likely to have a stronger impact.”

Outside the classroom Noha enjoys playing piano, volunteering for Project SHINE, participating in the Black Latino Student Union and the Micro-Finance club, and serving as an Arabic tutor and Slow Food treasurer. She has also taught belly dancing classes on-campus. For Noha, the integration of academics and student life and the relationships she has built are an important piece of what makes Hamilton so special. “I am constantly amazed by the ability of members of our community to overcome differences, bridge gaps and have meaningful conversations.” She also credits those who have supported the College with making a tremendous difference. “Without the generosity of Hamilton’s alumni, parents and friends, I would have never had the chance to live this experience. I am receiving an excellent education, while spending time with people who share my passion for life and learning. Hamilton is a place where I feel safe, happy and challenged, and I am deeply grateful for having the privilege of being a Hamilton student.”
