  • Theatre major Wynn Van Dusen ’15 recently had a unique opportunity that many seasoned veterans work for years to obtain. Van Dusen’s play “Slow” was was one of 10 accepted at the Red Shirt Rooftop Reading series, a New York City play festival that took place Sept. 20-22.

  • The Hamilton College Theatre Department will present its Spring Theater Production, Orestes 2.0 by Charles Mee. Performances will run Thursday, April 12, through Saturday, April 14, at 8 p.m., and Wednesday, April 18, through Saturday, April 21, at 8 p.m. There is an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. All performances will take place in Minor Theater.

  • Juancho Hurtado ’11 is a fire-breathing dragon. Well, not really. But he has experimented with the dangerous art of breathing fire this summer. His newly-acquired talent comes from his work at Teatro Taller de Colombia, one of the oldest street theatre groups in Colombia. He is studying street theatre there through the Emerson Grant Foundation, which was created in 1997 to promote collaboration with faculty on subjects that students find fascinating and worthwhile. His adviser and co-researcher is Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell, who stays in regular contact with Hurtado while he is out of the country.

  • Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell recently completed a month-long trip to Bali where he conducted research on destination weddings as intercultural performances. He observed the wedding of a Ukranian couple in a Balinese ceremony, and visited numerous wedding chapels, hotels, wedding coordinators, and an elephant park where it is possible to arrange a post-ceremony elephant ride through a village. His research was funded through the Dean of Faculty office.

  • Three Hamilton College faculty members will be promoted to the rank of professor, effective July 1. Associate professors Gordon Jones, physics; Craig Latrell, theatre; and Ann Owen, economics, will receive the title of professor.
