  • Richard Karrat ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Jordan. A Dean’s List student, Karrat is a French and world politics major at Hamilton.

  • In his Levitt Speaker Series lecture on April 5, Peter Demerath, a University of Minnesota professor of organizational leadership, policy and development, discussed educational inequality and the reproduction of class status. Demerath drew on four years of personal research experience at a public high school in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.

  • Pat Dunn ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Malaysia. He is an environmental studies and creative writing major at Hamilton.  

  • Laura Gilson ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Indonesia.  A Dean’s List student, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in February.  Gilson is an English literature major and art history minor at Hamilton.

  • Nicholas Green, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Nepal.  A Dean’s List student, he is a philosophy major and geosciences minor at Hamilton.

  • The New York Times published a letter to the editor written by Professor of Government P. Gary Wyckoff as the leadoff response to “Class Matters. Why Won’t We Admit It?” in its Dec. 22 editorial section titled “Reducing Inequality in Our Schools.” He compared our current educational policies as being “like a requirement that all children clear the same height in the high jump, regardless of their stature.”

  • WAMC/Northeast Public Radio in Albany will feature P. Gary Wyckoff, professor of government and the director of the Public Policy Program , on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as part of the public radio station’s Academic Minute. During his reading, Wyckoff explains why holding teachers and students responsible for poor school performance ignores the single greatest factor that determines individual educational outcomes.

  • Ashlyn Razzo ’11 loves working with children. A recent Hamilton graduate, Razzo knew that she wanted to spend her future working with underprivileged youth, giving back to the kind of community in which she grew up. Razzo will be serving as a 2011 corps member in Miami for Teach For America (TFA), the non-profit organization dedicated to ending educational inequality in the United States.

  • I’m not one of those people who plan in advance, always knowing what my next move is going to be. I like to think this is a good quality; however, when searching for jobs after college this can be a problematic mindset. The day after graduating from Hamilton with majors in psychology and French, I was faced with a harsh reality: I had only my dad’s couch to sleep on and no idea what I wanted to do with my life.

  • Jaclyn Schuck graduated in May 2010. She came back to share her experience about her job search these past couple of months and to help inspire other individuals who may be struggling.
