When classes ended for Fall Recess on Oct. 16, the eager members of the Hamilton community set out to maximize their short respite from classes. The Outing Club (HOC) sponsored several trips out into the wilderness for students looking to experience unique beauty and to push their limits.

The Shenandoah-Kirkland Initiative hosted the second annual Haudenosaunee Social in the Events Barn on Oct. 12. Approximately 100 students, faculty, staff, and community members attended the hour-long celebration of the day and acknowledgment of the land on Oct. 14.

Per annual tradition, the Outing Club sent out 18 trips in a bid to put at least one Hamilton community member on the summits of each of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks. The first weekend of October proved to be a fine weekend for this venture as fall foliage was in full glory. The mountains were pockmarked with brilliant reds, yellows, and oranges as complements to the vibrant green – a beautiful sight to see!

The sisters of PBX engaged in some on-campus philanthropy recently when they helped Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings repair a bridge in Rogers Glen that had been swept away by a storm.

Both Daniel (Danny) Garcia ’84 and Larry Arias ’84 remember what things were like when they were some of the few Latinos at Hamilton. Both from the Bronx, their paths would cross at the college and both would lay the seeds for what would become the organization La Vanguardia (LV).

Tori Stapleton ’19 is convinced that the role models we encounter in elementary and middle school help determine who we become later in life. As founder of Girlz2Women and Boyz2Men, known collectively as EmPower Moves, she has mobilized Hamilton students to engage with local children through games, activities, and conversation designed to build confidence and confront gender norms.

The Hamilton Outing Club (HOC) recently welcomed a fresh batch of newly certified leaders to the community. Twenty-two students began their training on the morning of Sept.14 in the Glen House. This past weekend, many of these new leaders completed the second half of their certification with the completion of a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) class. After doing so, they are ready to get out into the wilderness and bring students from all over the community with them.

After a successful weather balloon launch and retrieval in December, the Hamilton Society of Physics students gave it another try on Sept. 21.

In 2018 HamVotes, a nonpartisan team of both administrators and student ambassadors, ramped up its presence on campus, organizing events to promote voter registration and increase voter turnout.
