The Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa is pleased to announce the election of the following nine members of the class of 2019: Ian Chen, Richard Court, Yongzheng Liang, Elizabeth Maier, Lona Sniderman, Jonathan Stickel, Ryan Tamburrino, Benjamin Walsh, and Jinghong Wang

The Hamilton Outing Club is proud to welcome 15 to new leaders to the community after last weekend’s leader training session. The participants sacrificed their weekend to learn what it takes to be a leader for the Outing Club. They spent time in and around the Glen House learning the necessary and important skills for leading a successful trip.

Following a D.C. program tradition, the fall 2018 Hamilton D.C. program students visited Williams & Jensen, a private law firm focused on lobbying, to speak with George Baker Jr. ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89. Baker and Vlossak were exceedingly gracious hosts, providing an insider look at the somewhat mysterious and often misunderstood world of lobbying.

It was July, 1920, just before the presidential election. Seven decades of women had worked for this moment, for the 19th amendment to be ratified, for the woman’s voice to be heard on the ballot. Thirty-five states had said yes and it was all left in the hands of one state. Tennessee ratified and 27 million women were able to vote.

Moth, a book of poems by Associate Professor of Literature and Creative Writing Jane Springer, was recently published by LSU Press.

A chapter by Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell is included in Globalization and Modernity in Asia: Performative Moments, recently published by Amsterdam University Press.

Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics, was interviewed by American Public Media's Marketplace senior reporter Tracey Samuelson on research released by the Boston Federal Reserve that showed that “historically, a low unemployment rate can signal trouble for the economy.”

Educational Technologist and Digital Media Specialist Ben Salzman ’14, Jon Bellona ’03, and Professor of Art Ella Gant recently honored Professor of Music Sam Pellman in presentations at the Kyma International Sound Symposium.
