A review of “Bosch: The 5th Centenary Exhibition” by Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate was published by Religion News Service (RNS) on June 9. The exhibition marking the 500th anniversary of the death of painter Hieronymus Bosch opened recently at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.

The Wellin Museum of Art recently welcomed nearly 100 kindergarteners from the Clinton Central School District for a morning of arts education. The three classes that visited on June 7 and the two classes that came on June 9 worked with the Wellin educational staff consisting of Amber Spadea, the Andrew W. Mellon Educator for School and Community Programs, and a team of Hamilton College student docents including Anjanae Williams ’18, Elliot Nathan ’17, Julia Dailey ’18, and Reed Johnson ’18.

The Hamilton Field Hockey team recently returned from an exciting trip abroad to Seville, Spain, and Lisbon, Portugal. For eight days steeped in Spanish and Portuguese culture, the team explored the cities and cultural artifacts, played competitive field hockey, and spent time volunteering.

Associate Professor of Art History Stephen J. Goldberg presented a paper titled “On the Transcultural Imagination in the Art of Liu Dan and André Kneib” at the 48th annual conference of the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy (SACP).

Passionate about storytelling, Samantha Donohue ’18 crafted a summer research project that plays to that interest.

The adjustment to college life is something that many remember as perhaps overwhelming and, at times, confusing. As a Writing Center tutor, Fain Riopelle ’17 has tracked this transitional period by reading first-year students’ essays.  Through an Emerson research grant this summer Riopelle hopes to identify common issues with high school writing and create a curriculum that addresses them.

A little sun, a lot of rain, but plenty of good spirits marked Reunions 2016, June 9-12. Classmates reunited at traditional dinners, Alumni Colleges provided food for thought on a wide of topics, and the annual meeting of the Alumni Association featured presentation of the Bell Ringer Award to President Joan Hinde Stewart.  

Alfred Kelly, the Edgar B. Graves Professor of History, published a review of Peter Paret’s Clausewitz in His Time: Essays in the Cultural and Intellectual History of Thinking about War in the current issue of the Canadian Journal of History.

Beginning with his submission published in Vox titled The easiest way to guess if someone supports Trump? Ask if Obama is a Muslim, Professor of Government Philip Klinkner’s research has been referenced in articles in Salon, Fusion, New York Magazine, The Washington Post, The Guardian and DailyKos and in an MSNBC broadcast.

Yuwen Michelson’s ’17, a sociology major, is interning with Quill.org, a web-based literacy tool that provides personalized, interactive writing lessons for middle school and high school students.
