A documentary film screening of Fighting For America: The Reflections of Black WWII Veterans, a film produced by Susan Perham ’12, will take place on Friday, April 30, at 4 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium (formerly known as the Kirner-Johnson Auditorium, KJ 125). The film was produced as part of Perham’s summer 2009 Emerson Fellowship titled “Oneida County’s African American WWII Veterans,” which she worked on under the advisement of Professor of History Esther Kanipe. The screening is free and open to the public.

Two members of the Hamilton College faculty were recently awarded a grant by the Consortium on High Achievement and Success (CHAS). Assistant Professor of History Chad Williams and Consulting Director of the Cultural Education Center Madeleine Lopez were awarded $5,000 to support a pedagogical initiative titled “Faculty as Models of Academic Success” (FAMAS).

Andrew Dykstra, assistant professor of mathematics, recently published an article in Journal d'Analyse Mathematique. The article is joint work with Dan Rudolph and is titled "Any two irrational rotations are nearly continuously Kakutani equivalent."

It surveyed high school students’ attitudes toward the U.S. economy and the performance of President Obama.

Jennifer Whitman ’10 has been awarded a Fulbright grant to China. Through her project, she will work with faculty at the University of Sichuan Law School in Chengdu, China, to examine Chinese legal aid for female migrant workers. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study abroad for one academic year.

Senior Art Show 2010, a presentation of works created by 10 art majors, will open at the Emerson Gallery on Friday, April 30. An opening reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. The exhibition runs through Saturday, May 22, and is free and open to the public. Families of graduating seniors are invited to attend the graduation reception on May 22, from 1-3 p.m.

Tracy Mitrano, the director of IT Policy and Computer Policy and Law Programs for the Office of Information Technologies at Cornell University, will give the Couper Phi Beta Kappa Lecture on Thursday, April 29, at 4:10 p.m., in the Science Center Kennedy Auditorium. Her lecture is titled “Copyright Conundrums: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” and is free and open to the public.

On April 26, Ambassador William Luers ’51, Linowitz Professor and keynote speaker, joined Ambassador Edward Walker Jr. ’62 and Professor Alan Cafruny for a discussion on U.S.-Iranian relations. Ambassador Luers provided an alternative view on U.S. relations with Iran that centered on more constructive communication rather than the accusatory and uncompromising policy currently employed.
