The Senior Art Show 2011, a presentation of works by 11 graduating art majors, will open at the Emerson Gallery on Thursday, April 21. The exhibition includes photography, drawing, painting, mixed media and sculpture. An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 21, from 4-6 p.m. at the gallery. The show will close on Sunday, May 22.

Professor of Comparative Literature Peter J. Rabinowitz delivered a paper, “Putting Fiction to the Test,” at the International Conference on Narrative in St. Louis on April 8. Returning to issues initially raised in some of his earlier work, Rabinowitz centered on a series of questions concerning the border between fiction and non-fiction.

Five Hamilton students participated in the 10th annual Upstate New York Russian Language “Olympics,” held at Union College on April 9. Caroline Epstein, Erin Sullivan, Linda Zhang, Peter Wheelwright (all ’13), and Tara Collins ’11, joined undergraduates from the host institution as well as Hobart-William Smith, Binghamton University, The University at Albany and the United States Military Academy at West Point for a friendly competition in various Russian language activities.

Peggy Piesche, visiting instructor of German and Russian studies presented a paper at the Ninth International Conference of the Collegium for African American Research (CAAR) held April 6-9 at the Université Paris Diderot-Paris 7 in France.

Hamilton Environmental Action Group (HEAG) is inviting the Hamilton community to join together to celebrate the Earth and make a difference during Green Week, which kicks off on Monday, April 18, and will continue through next weekend. Green Week is HEAG’s biggest project of the semester, and will feature at least one new event every day.

Galia Slayen ’13, who with Perry Ryan ’12 provided the impetus for Hamilton’s participation in the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW), was featured on NBC’s Today Show on Monday, April 18, in live interviews at both the 8 and 10 a.m. hours. Director of New Media J.D. Ross was interviewed for an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education titled "Colleges Rehab Their Web Sites for Major Payoffs" that appeared online and in the publication’s April 18 issue.

Dr. James Afful Clarke, Ghanaian ophthalmologist and Unite for Sight medical advisory board member, will give a lecture titled “Global Health Delivery in Ghana: Reaching the Poorest of the Poor” on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., in the Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, has accepted an invitation to serve as a faculty fellow and mentor in the Beyster Professorship, Fellowship, and Related Fellows Program at the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University.
